Rest explores a rare moment in which nothing is asked of the body. Reclining in water with her eyes closed and hands open, the figure allows herself a pause from the demands of everyday life.

Seen from above, the body rests within the curved enclosure of the bath. Softened edges and gentle shifts of color bring skin, water, and surrounding surfaces into a shared atmosphere.

The painting gives this private moment its own significance. Here, rest becomes a way of returning to oneself, with no urgency to move on.
